Learning Japanese, Hiragana katakana

18/09/2005 Learning Japanese, Hiragana katakana

In preparation for my time in Japan, getting up to speed with learning Japanese speak is somewhat desirable. I intend to add good learning Japanese links to this page, so I don't loose them in the future and other people can find them too.

General (Japanese) Learning Tips

  • Regular short learing sessions
Your concetration will be strongest in the first 40minutes or so, so it's usually best to have 2/3 3minute sessions per day rather than 1 long hour/hour and a half.
  • Practice before bed and when you wake up
these are great times for learning, before/at breakfast and before you nod off - I've even found that I start dreaming in japanese after regular before sleep practice!
  • Learn Hiragana and Katakana first
It only takes a few hours to learn all the characters if you use the link below. and will save you time in the long run.
  • Make Japanese friends
Practice your ropey Japanese on native speakers, all the Japanese people I've met have been really friendly. Also if you're a guy, get them to teach you Japanese chat up lines and then watch the Japanese girls laugh their arses off at you as you try them out.
  • Eat Japanese food
Well it tastes great and if you use chopsticks, you'll somehow feel more Japanese.
  • Go to Japan
