The Sweetest Rose
21/08/2004
There once was a time
many years before
when you just a child
and little more
a smile so sweet
and a heart so pure
you knew not of love
you knew not of hurt
A little older
a flower so pretty
opened your heart
and made you giddy
a new hunger
quickly you found
you swept away
feet off the ground
If you haven't opened the door on love
You know not what it is to be in the cold
With no memory of joy and beauty
there is no loss, no pain, no hole.
And the sweetest rose
you found on your way
took your heart
and your breath away
you stepped through that door
a life long path you found
but stolen from your hands
left you crumpled on the ground
You remember that time
many years before
an innocent child
and little more
now that child has gone
left you like a dove
you can feel the loss
you can feel the love
If you haven't opened the door on love
You know not what it is to be in the cold
With no memory of joy and beauty
there is no loss, no pain, no hole.
